Herb garden

We were given this lovely old Butler sink last week, which we have just turned into a herb garden containing parsley, sage, chives and thyme. The essential rosemary and mint are growing in the border, as they need more space.

  1. Did you know that, in the seventeenth century, the word "herb" was pronounced "erb" - i.e. just as the Americans do today?

In fact, some scholars argue that current American English is closer to earlier English English than is today's British English. So all those Hollywood historical movies where people talk "posh" English are probably hopelessly inaccurate. (Thought you'd like to know that.)
